Announcing The A.G.T. Isotope Source Recovery Program

Advanced Gauging is pleased to introduce our new Isotope Source Recovery and Disposal Program.  This service has been made possible by A.G.T.’s recent completion of the Sparrows Point, Maryland source cleanup project (see Sept. 11, 2014 blog post) and concurrent GTRI security upgrades.  As a result of these projects, the Ohio Department of Health has amended our radioactive material license and now allows us to accept a wider variety of isotope sources for recovery (accept ownership), disposal (coordinate physical disposal with federal and state authorities) and/or temporary storage.  This includes many common sealed sources such as those used in various industrial, medical and food processing industries as well as sources used in research and development.  For complete details and a list of sources we can accept, please visit the “Services” section of our website.

It will be installed on a new 84” Slitting Line being built for Samuel, Son & Company and will be Samuel’s sixth A.G.T. thickness gauge in North America. This gauge will be used to measure various steel and aluminum alloys with a thickness range of 0.020” to 0.160”. This is A.G.T.’s second order in as many weeks for an AGT800 from a line builder.

A.G.T. Leads The Way In Laser Thickness Measurement

Cover_Large_0315Advanced Gauging Technologies was mentioned in the March 2015 issue of American Metal Market as a pioneer in the transition from isotope to laser based thickness gauging. Bill Beck’s article highlights the various ways that the metal industry, and its service centers, are using technology to enhance productivity in ways not thought possible even a decade ago.

You can find the whole article “Technology centers” over at the American Metal Market website but here is an excerpt with our mention:

Perhaps no segment of the metals service center industry has experienced more technological change in the 21st Century than metals testing. Waltham, Mass.-based Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. provides its service center customers with sophisticated handheld alloy analyzers. And Plain City, Ohio-based Advanced Gauging Technologies LLC has helped pioneer the transition of measuring the thickness of coil, sheet or strip metal from isotope gauges to laser gauges, eliminating the use of radioactive material and giving operators a measure of precision that is hard to surpass.
