John Paul Fearing is the Senior Field Service Engineer for Advanced Gauging Technologies (AGT). John is an “old gauge guy” as he has been working in the gauging business for 20 years. John still does service work for most of our customers, in particular, those customers with older systems. If you recently purchased a new gauging system, it is likely that John will handle the startup.
John’s background reads as a who’s who of thickness gauging. He has worked for most of the big names in the gauging business including Weston, Loral, DMC, Measurex, Radiometrie, and now saving the best for last – AGT. John obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVry Institute of Technology in Columbus, Ohio in March 1989 and has been working in the gauge business ever since.
John’s work experience has taken him overseas many times. He has traveled extensively in India, China, Russia, Thailand, Argentina, and Peru just to name a few. When asked about his travels he tries to look at the positive aspects of each trip. Sometimes that is tough to do when you spend a winter in Russia (very cold) or a summer in India (very hot). If you want to hear an amusing story, ask about his fist trip to Peru or his trip to see the Taj Mahal in India.
John’s new passion is motorcycles. He has a Honda 1300 VTX. The bike allows for a sense of freedom that is hard to duplicate in this busy day and age. When asked “Why didn’t you get a Harley?” John will tell you that as a new rider he is more comfortable on a less expensive Honda as opposed to the more expensive Harley Davidson. When it comes to four wheels, many of you may have noticed the red Grand Prix that John drives as a work car, but this is no ordinary work car. John ran the quarter mile in 13.2 seconds @ 105 MPH at Norwalk Raceway in April of 2008.
